When it comes to Scandinavia, Norway and Iceland get a lot of media love, followed by Sweden and Denmark. But we shouldn’t leave the shy, sauna-crazy country out, as Finland has a lot to offer potential visitors.

3. They Have A Beer Floating Festival
Yes. Every year a group of Finns get together, fill their inflatebles with beer and just float down a river, drinking beer and chilling out. The festival is called Kaljakellunta and is an unorganized spontaneous gathering of like-minded Finns. This year it is being held on the 1st of August, so you still have time to find a flight to Helsinki and chill with the locals.
Here’s a link to the Facebook event for this year’s Kaljakellunta
4. The Aurora Borealis
Northern Finland stretches into the arctic and so it gets fabulous views of the northern lights. Just take a look at these images on flickr.
5. Monty Python Wrote a Song About Finland
Famous comedians Monty Python dedicated a song to the great nation.
You’re so near to Russia
So far from Japan
Quite a long way from Cairo
Lots of miles from Vietnam
6. The Glass Igloos
The Kakslauttanen Igloo Village is a series of bungalows offering grand views of the aurora borealis through glass igloos. So you can gaze at the dancing green lights while sipping on champagne in your bathrobe.
7. It’s Also Pretty During Summer
On a fine summer day, Finns have an overwhelming urge to get outside and get out of town. From the beautiful coastal islands to the ever-present forests and lakes everywhere and anywhere in the country, the nature is always nearby, even with the largest of cities.
